ECC Tournaments crown Champions of College Cup

Guilford, Conn.-- This past Sunday marked the conclusion of the 2017 ECC College Cup Tournaments and the crowning of champions at the 18U, 16U, 15U and 14U levels. Championship games for 18U Red/White, 16U Red, and 15U took place at Northford Ice Pavilion.  16U White was at Dayton Arena at Connecticut College and 14U Championship was at Westminster School.

18U Red | PAL Islanders

PAL capped off a perfect 5-0 weekend with an exciting 3-2 win over Springfield Rifles. Friday, PAL took down the Rifles Showcase team 4-2 before on Saturday beating the Jr. Bruins Black and 95 Giants 4-0 and 4-2 respectively.  Sunday morning PAL beat Elite Hockey Program 18U 3-2 with a late goal in regulation before raising the cup later in the afternoon.

18U White | Jersey Shore Whalers

The Whalers, who also had a 5-0 record, started the weekend on Friday with a 3-2 win over the Neponset Valley River Rats; Jersey Shore blanked the Exton Bulls 3-0 before beating Elite Hockey Split 4-1 Saturday.  The semifinal game saw them eliminate the Springfield Rifles 3-1 before skating to a close 3-2 Win over the Boston Jr. Bruins Gold Team Sunday afternoon.

16U Red | LI Gulls

Perhaps the most dominating performance of the tournament, the LI Gulls outscoring their opponents 26-4 throughout the weekend starting with an 8-2 win over the CT Riverhawks.  Saturday saw the Gulls beat Islanders Hockey Club and the Vermont Flames 5-2 and 5-1.  On Sunday morning, LI beat the South Shore Kings 5-1 in the semis prior to a 3-0 win in the championship game against the Springfield Pics.

16U White | Southern CT Stars

Southern had a dominating showing at College Cup beating their opponents by a combined score of 23-3.  Southern started the weekend 4-1 beating the NJ Avalanche American Squad. Saturday saw the Stars shutout their opponents CT. JR Rangers and NV River Rats 6-0 and 4-0 respectively.  In the semifinals on Sunday, Southern ousted NJ Av’s American team 3-2 and beat West Haven Blue Devils 6-0 in the finals.

15U Red | LI Royals

The Royals were tested throughout the entire weekend.  After beating CHC power MidFairfield on Friday 2-0, the Royals lost 6-3 to AYHL Rival Elite Hockey Program on Saturday morning.  LI bounced back that evening to take down the Rochester Coalition 5-4 to advance to crossovers.  Sunday in the semi’s the Royals beat the Springfield Rifles 3-1 prior to a convincing 6-1 victory over the Jersey Shore Whalers in the Championship.

14U Red | Elite Hockey Program

Elite clawed their way to victory over the weekend starting with a 4-1 win over the Boston Vipers. Saturday saw Elite losing to AYHL foe LI Royals 7-5 before tying a solid Springfield Rifles team 2-2.  Sunday, Elite took down the Royals in a come from behind 4-3 win prior to beating the Rifles 4-2 for their second consecutive 14U College Cup Championship.
