Smokeponies Capture 2018 ECC Vineyard Cup Crown!

Martha's Vineyard, Mass.,

The 2018 ECC Vineyard Cup played host to eight Pro-Am teams from along the east coast this past weekend at the newly renovated Martha's Vineyard Arena! After and exciting preliminary round, the four teams to move on to the playoffs were:

#1 Toe Dragons (15 Points)

#2 Newport Swarm (13 Points)

#3 Smokeponies (11 Points)

#4 Vineyard Kings (8.5 Points)

Points were awarded in the following fashion (Period win = 1 Point, Game win 2 Points, Tie 1 Point, Penalty free game = 2 Points).  The Championship game saw the Smokeponies take down the Toe Dragons by a final score of 6-3 to claim the 2018 Vineyard Cup title. 2018 marked the third straight year the Smokeponies had reached the finals but were unsuccessful in their previous two attempts at the title.  The 2018 tournament played host to over 80 current & former NCAA players and two current NHL standouts, Adam Gaudette (Vancouver Canucks) & Noah Hanifin (Carolina Hurricanes).

The expanding list of  NHL players to have participated in the ECC Vineyard Cup now includes: Scott Darling (Chicago Blackhawks),  Kevin Hayes (NY Rangers),  Matt Anderson  (NJ Devils), Jimmy Vesey  (NY Rangers ), Daniel Carr (Montreal Canadiens) & Chris Wagner (Anaheim Ducks), Adam Gaudette (Vancouver Cannucks & winner of the Hoby Baker Award while at Northeastern Univ.), Noah Hanifin (Carolina Hurricanes).
